26 June, 2026The European Space Astronomy Centre (ESAC) in Madrid hosted the second edition of the Machine Learning meets Galaxy Classification workshop, an international event focused on exploring the application of artificial intelligence to astronomical research.
On this occasion, Jesús Vega Ferrero, PhD, Senior Data Scientist at DDS, served on the workshop's scientific committee, contributing to the design of the programme and helping create a collaborative environment for knowledge exchange among experts from different disciplines.
Over three days, more than 70 researchers shared the latest advances in machine learning techniques for galaxy classification, together with new approaches to analysing large-scale scientific datasets.
Alongside the technical sessions, the workshop featured an unconference format that encouraged open discussions on topics such as the social and environmental impact of artificial intelligence, the responsible use of AI technologies, and the challenges faced by the next generation of researchers.
DDS's involvement in organising this event highlights the company's commitment to research, innovation and the development of AI-based solutions, while reinforcing its active participation in international initiatives that drive scientific progress.
